There’s something incredibly satisfying about ditching the cheap factory parts and upgrading to something with real purpose and durability. In my latest video, I walk through the install of Motobilt’s rear inner fenders on my Jeep Gladiator JT EcoDiesel — and finally said goodbye to the flimsy plastic stock panels.

Why Upgrade Your Inner Fenders?

If you’ve wheeled even once with the factory inner fenders, you already know — they don’t hold up. They’re prone to cracking, collecting debris, and generally getting in the way when it comes to clearance and airflow. Swapping to a set of steel inner fenders not only cleans up the rear wheel wells, but gives you more tire room and better heat management.

What Makes the JT Rear Fenders Unique?

The Jeep Gladiator rear fender splits apart (check your fenders, some trim levels don't)— which makes room for an extra inch oc clearence instantly. I show that process in the video and explain what to look for. For those running the EcoDiesel, there's an extra step: the DEF system vent on the driver’s side. I had to do a quick trim on one piece of the fender liner to allow the vent tubing to fit properly. Not a big deal, but definitely worth noting.

Real-World Install

This was a true DIY setup — one action cam, no script, just wrenching in the garage. I wanted to keep it authentic. I walk through the basics of:

  • Prepping the area

  • Removing the factory plastic

  • Fitting the new Motobilt inner fenders

  • Adjusting for the EcoDiesel-specific vent

Final Thoughts

The Motobilt kit fits great and gave the rear end of the JT a much more dialed-in, trail-ready look. The install was straightforward, and aside from a little trimming for the DEF vent, it went in without a hitch. If you're running a Gladiator — especially an EcoDiesel — and you're still rolling on factory fenders, it's time to make the change.
